Football Eats Our Lives…

Dear friends and colleagues, I would like to invite you and your friends to the opening of the exhibition „Football is our life“: (literally translated “Football Eats Our Lives” according to a German word game with `ißt`, which means «eats»)
on Saturday, 17 September 2022, 5 pm

I’m presenting my  installation Triumph

Football is part of our society, it is sport, it is entertainment and it is business.

Football is played by more than 275 million people in over 200 countries, according to the world football association FIFA, and a much higher number of people follow the games in stadiums and on screens around the world.

For decades, the sport has fascinated millions of people and has become a billion-dollar business in the process. The annual turnover of the five biggest football leagues in Europe currently amounts to over 15 billion Swiss francs.

The exhibition “Football Eats Our Lives” is taking place almost parallel to the 22nd Football World Cup in Qatar. Together with the accompanying events, it highlights various aspects around football. It shows art about football and about ‘football art’ in many facets and also addresses unpleasant side effects of this sport, which have not only come to light with the current World Cup.

Knowing about top-class exhibitions about football that preceded our exhibition, such as “Rundlederwelten” 2006, this latter aspect is important to us. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, graphics, photography, videos, installations and sculptures by 22 international artists or groups of artists, some of them big football fans themselves. During the research for the exhibition, we discovered how extensive the artistic work on the subject of football is; our exhibition can only present a small selection of it.
